About me

I’ve been on this planet for some time now. I have seen a lot of things, heard a lot of things, read a lot of things, and done a lot of things. One of the best things I have ever done, was become vegan. It was also one of the hardest. As long as I have a choice, though, veganism is the lifestyle for me, no matter how hard it is.

Back in 2004, when I became a vegan (vegetarian for a couple of years before that), New Zealand was a dire place for vegans. Being a vegan is still no walk in the park, but it’s getting easier at a rapid rate.

And did I ever make some mistakes along the way! Road maps and role models were as scarce as hens’ teeth, so mostly I bumbled through it by trial and error. Not that there weren’t some other vegans around to provide a small oasis of community, but for the main part I was on my own for a considerable amount of the journey.

I still don’t know everything – and I’ll die not knowing everything – but I have learned a lot. And I’m still learning, and making human mistakes, and then learning some more. This is me talking about all of that.

***Definition of veganism: Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.
